Buenavista National High School (Observation & Teaching )

 

    Buenavista National High School is at the high school level. Just like Supang there were two days of observation and two days of teaching, on Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Jum'at, and I taught 10th grade.

    The teaching atmosphere at this school is a little different from before, in that the children are a little formal and mature if the friendly ones are many, it's just that the upbringing from a very formal school is very pronounced. However, I was comfortable in this class during observation and teaching. oh yes, the most striking thing in this school is that there are different levels of knowledge. For example, in the first class, the students are neutral, but in the second class, the teacher said that the second class of children is quite smart. in terms of intelligence here are students who actively ask and answer. 

The mentor teacher from Buenavista High School is Sir. Roey. He is very kind and helpful. for example, when I was teaching, I was given notes from him containing several questions that were asked of students. although he looks so indifferent his original is very good. I often discuss lesson plans and PowerPoint as material to be taught, and he always gives positive feedback.

The lesson plan is the same as in Supang, except that here I made 2 lesson plans and 2 PowerPoint, namely for the first and second day. and the learning topic is about "Analyze how plot, setting, and characterization are used in material to achieve the author's purpose". so there must be a video to describe the plot of the story. Oh ya, on the first day I taught 3 classes, and on the second day I taught 2 classes, and each class lasted one hour.

The important teaching points here are:

1. Review of previous learning.

2. Warm up first so that students are excited. 

3. Provide stimulus images so that students think critically.

4. Watch a video about the learning topic. 

5. Discussing the picture shown earlier, and being reminded of what type it belongs to.

6. Group work and presenting the results. 

7. Reflecting back on the lesson. 

Teaching experience at Buenavista High School: 

The teaching experience here is pleasant, although they look mature to the students, they are very respectful and polite to teachers according to their age and there is discipline. Also, the mentor teacher is also very good, even though he looks fierce, in fact, he is very kind, the teachers there are also very good and very humble. Oh yes, the interesting thing is, after I no longer teach there, my mentor teacher now teaches using the warm-up method because it didn't exist before. I got the info from my student there who contacted me through social media. Honestly, I feel very happy that my method has a very positive impact.

The conclusion of the value is very satisfying and very good. From the results of school observations I learned to reflect on myself in teaching, and I want to practice my teaching method in Indonesia.
